The fit-out of a small 17th Century shop unit as our studio, on a micro budget.
Our studio is located in what was previously a shop in a small street on the edge of the town centre. The tall glass shop front is an ideal window to present projects, and in doing so the shop front exposes the practice of architecture, a practice that is often hidden behind closed doors and corporate elevations, and offers something back to passers-by. By making this connection with the street, we aim to be more approachable and demystify the practice of architecture and present it as a creative endeavour.
A proposal for an enclosure to create an office and reception area for Ipswich Community Media and Suffolk Refugee Centre as part of the refit of a 1970's shop unit for the two local charities.
The enclosure is located behind a large glazed shop front and is designed to maintain views and light from outside but provide a focused and contained office space for staff, whilst maintaining an open engaging presence to the street expressing the of the activities of the building, and welcoming reception area to visitors.
