The Tate Modern building is made from 4.3 million bricks. The total cost of the conversion and extension was £394 million. The internal floor area of Tate Modern is 34,500 square metre. £394m divided by 34,500 sq m = £1,142 per square metre.
The Brick Gallery is made from 1 brick. The total cost of the brick and installation was £450. The internal floor area of the Brick Gallery is 0.02 square metres. £450 divided by 0.02 sq m = £22,550 per square metre.
As far as we are aware, Brick Gallery is the smallest brick-built gallery in the world. It is also perhaps the most expensive gallery per square metre.
The Brick Gallery can be installed in any brick wall.
